St. Marks
St. Marks Lighthouse has stood at the edge of Apalachee Bay since the 1840s, surviving hurricanes, Civil War damage, and shoreline change. The restored white tower remains active within St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and opens on selected days.
St. Johns River Lighthouse
The red-brick St. Johns River Lighthouse is the third historic tower built to mark Jacksonville’s river entrance. Inactive since 1931 and surrounded by Naval Station Mayport, it can usually be seen only from a distance outside the base.
St. Johns Lighthouse
Built in 1954 at Naval Station Mayport, St. Johns Lighthouse is a modern concrete tower without a traditional lantern room. Its exposed beacon remains active, while military security limits close public access to the station.
St. Augustine
St. Augustine Lighthouse is a 165-foot black-and-white striped tower completed in 1874 on Anastasia Island. Its original first-order Fresnel lens still shines, while the restored keeper’s house and maritime museum welcome visitors throughout the year.
Sombrero Key
Sombrero Key Lighthouse has towered above the reef south of Marathon since 1858. The 149-foot iron structure endured generations of hurricanes and isolated keepers, and today it is best seen by boat, plane, or from the shores of Sombrero Beach.
Sanibel Island
Sanibel Island Lighthouse has marked the entrance to San Carlos Bay since 1884. The brown skeletal tower survived Hurricane Ian, was relighted five months later, and remains a beloved island landmark beside Lighthouse Beach Park.
Sand Key
Sand Key Lighthouse rises from a reef southwest of Key West where earlier buildings were repeatedly swept away by hurricanes. The surviving 1853 iron tower is a familiar snorkeling landmark, but it is inactive and accessible only from the water.
Port Boca Grande
Port Boca Grande Lighthouse is a picturesque 1890 light built into a keeper’s dwelling at the southern tip of Gasparilla Island. Restored as a museum and active beacon, it overlooks Boca Grande Pass from a popular state park beach.
Ponce de Leon Inlet
At 175 feet, Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse is Florida’s tallest lighthouse and one of the nation’s best-preserved light stations. Visitors can climb 203 steps, tour three keeper dwellings, and see an exceptional collection of restored Fresnel lenses.
Pensacola
Pensacola Lighthouse has guided ships into one of Florida’s most important harbors since 1859. The black-and-white brick tower survived Civil War fire and still operates with a first-order Fresnel lens beside the historic keeper’s quarters at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
